Poor John Boehner. Ted Cruz usurped Boehner once again, and the GOP continues to implode. Congress votes to sue Obama for taking executive actions, and now Boehner asks the president to act on his own to deal with immigration because republicans had to pull their own bill. What they finally managed to pass is so far to the right that it makes Congress look like they’re trying to build a military state.
Total failure.
Cruz v. Boehner (round two) causes more chaos in Congress. The Tea Party crazies in the Senate have to cross the halls to the House of Representatives so they can be with their own kind – and John Boehner is stuck trying to deal with the aftermath. At this point… I’m surprised we haven’t seen republicans in the House throw their own waste on the walls then hold a pride-filled press conference about their re-decorating accomplishment. I’m not kidding – that’s the level of intellect Congress is demonstrating.
The GOP House Sues The President: the great achievement of the 113th Congress.
On a partisan line vote (less 5 republicans who apparently believe that suing the president is “not going far enough”), the U.S. House of Representatives voted to sue President Obama. We all know that this is a suing the president is a partisan stunt the likes of which we have never seen. Even impeaching Bill Clinton and drawing up papers to impeach George W. Bush lacked the Tea Party driven insanity we see now. They manage to vote to sue the president, but have to pull their own immigration bill off the floor because they don’t have the votes. Not the best day for the new leadership team. I’m not sure if they’re pre-schoolers or a reincarnation of the Keystone Cops.
It is truly absurd. There’s no other way to describe how dysfunctional the Republican Party has become. The only notable accomplishment of the House of Representatives is to sue the person who the Tea Party base hates more than any other human being in the world: President Obama. Then good ‘ole Ted Cruz who wants to be Speaker of the House – even though he’s in the Senate – managed to rally the Tea Party crazies again so that republicans couldn’t even pass their own immigration bill. I’ve never seen a group of people hit themselves in the face so hard and so often.
The scary part is that their rapid republican base love them for it. “Thank you for causing chaos” they say as they pull out their checkbooks. The GOP is officially a circus freak show without a ringleader. Reality walked out the door and has been replaced by clown suits and slapstick. The Tea Party needs to take the short bus out of Washington.
I have a good friend who teaches pre school kids with special needs. Our government reminds me a lot of my last visit there. Difference being, however, that the kids in her class are actually well-intentioned and have good hearts. Kids that age might run around hitting one another with broken toys, but at least they haven’t allowed whatever fears life presents to us turn their heads into meatloaf and hearts into stone. At least the kids aren’t mean. republicans in Congress just hate. That’s what the do. It’s who they are.
So what now? John Boehner and his Tea Party posse have voted to sue Obama. What happens next?
First, they all go home and raise a ton of money. Both parties. This is a partisan stunt that is designed to raise money. That’s it. Democrats are adding to the political mix their hope that this sort of Tea Party extremism will hurt republicans in the November election. The talk thus far is the process won’t even reach any significance until after Obama has left office, anyway. This is about raising money. The fact that there might very well be a reasonable constitutional question in the lawsuit is entirely secondary. The purpose is to keep the Tea Party base from eating establishment republicans alive in the 2014 election. They MUST get their crazy base out to vote for candidates who their base don’t think are conservative enough. The only way to do that is to pull stunts like suing the president.
Both parties have already raised millions on this topic. Moreover, the Democratic Party is loving that the fringe of the GOP keeps mentioning the word impeachment. Poor John Boehner is trying everything he can to say they have no plans to impeach the president, but his Tea’d up fringe love that word almost as much as they love the smooth alliteration of Rush Revere. As one MSNBC’r put it, they just can’t stop reaching for the cookies. They are, literally, uncontrollable. Poor John Boehner. He has lost control of his special needs classroom. I hear Arnold Schwarzenegger is being cast in his roll for the made for TV movie: “Kindergarten Room 113”.
Republicans in Congress can’t even pass their own immigration bill
Speaker of the House John Boehner had to pull his own party’s horrific immigration bill at the last minute, extend the session, and bend over backwards to get something re-written that the crazies in Congress would accept. The result is a Friday night symbolic vote. The Senate won’t pass it, and even it did, the President would veto it. What republicans in Congress came up with is to a straight forward “GET OFF MY LAWN!” approach to immigration and U.S. citizenship.
Republicans cannot pass their own bills. Republicans are suing the president for acting with out them (because they’re incompetent and can’t do anything). Then in the same day they encourage the president to deal with the southern border problem on his own – the exact same type of unilateral actions for which they suing him. Absurd is too weak a word.
Has the Republican Party reached the bottom of the barrel? Can they be any more cruel, divorced from reality, and incompetent? In the freak show that is the United States House of Representatives, what will happen next? Lord only knows. (And ten bucks says even He is scratching his head in total disbelief.)
