Granted, I’ve been a little harsh on Mitt Romney in the past, but as a man, he never ceases to surprise me. With the ongoing lies, policy dodges, and meager attempts to demonstrate leadership… I’m beginning to ask myself: Does Mitt Romney lie more than the average politician, or is he just a coward? It he’s just a coward then at least I’d feel sorry for him an not be so aghast at his blatant lies that have carried him during his entire campaign.
Coward is a strong word, I respect that. But when in the process of selecting the Commander in Chief of the country that has the largest millitary in the solar system… we want to know if the man leading the country has a backbone.
I don’t think Mitt Romney has a backbone (and I’m not alone). If he can’t stand up to the Tea Party, how can he stand up to leaders of other countries? If he ever has taken a stand, then it’s only been to change his stand on the same issue that he made earlier. ALL Mitt Romney does is cater to the crowd in the room: say anything to close the deal. That is NOT what it takes to be President.
America is a cowboy, rebel-loving country. We pride ourselves on someone who takes a stand. The only thing on which Mitt Romney has taken a stand is refusing to show his tax returns. We all know it’s because, while following the laws no doubt, it would enrage a lot of Americans who pay a much larger percentage of their income than he does – income that they need to keep much more than Mitt Romney does. But we love strong people who fight the good fight. Strong people who stand up for what they belive in.
Mitt Romney doesn’t stand up for what he believes in.
Mitt Romney has (from what I hear) done a lot of good for and with his church, yet not once has he mentioned specifics: what, why, or when. His wife, Anne Romney, mentioned something along these lines insofar as donations, but because Republicans can only with by coveting and catering to votes from religious right, the Romney campaign flat out refuses to talk about his religion… something that is at his core and very important to him…. Bottom line in this vein is one of the most important things to Mitt Romney, something that defines him, his faith… he won’teven take a stand on that for fear of losing votes of the Republican base. No backbone. Coward? Regardless of which phrase or word you use, it doesn’t point the needle towards categories akin to courage.
The only time we can likely claim Mitt Romney has not been a coward is either in protecting the details of his wealth or in his never ending set of lies and misquotes of the President. Mitt shows no strength on anything else. Nothing.
We’re left with two options for Mitt Romney’s cowardice, vs. pandering, vs. love to lie:
- Mitt Romney lies because he knows he won’t get called on it. American will let the lies slide, due to the massive amount of money put into commercials (and he thinks most Americans are dumb, which covers many other of my rants lately), or;
- Mitt Romney is a coward, and won’t take a stand for things in which he believes – issues and beliefs that show who Mitt Romney is as a person, not just a candidate: what he believes, how he lives, what he does when the cameras and voters aren’t looking.
I’m sure it’s clear which of those two options I think is true… well… I think both are true ;) All that matters is winning, no matter how many lies or strategic omissions it takes to get there.
But for President of the United States…. “Mitt crossing the Delaware…” yeah… I don’t see that either.
I’d rather have a president who at least knows what he believes in. Mitt Romney has changed his own past retroactively so many times I’m beginning to wonder if he even knows what he believes. Parrot? Coward? I guess we all get to decide in November.
