How can someone like me who rants about the Republican Party as much as I do NOT choose this as the best search that brought someone to POLITUSIC?
“Romney counting on idiot voter” indeed! Well searched whoever you are!
However, it did spark a new thought on my political rants of late:
There are still no doubts that Republicans and Mitt Romney in particular are literally counting stupid voters – excuse me, the ill-informed voters – of America. It’s all part of the election game: how many people can you count on who are too dumb to know any better and will vote for whomever Rush and a well-edited commercial with a scary voice-over will tell them? Count up those votes Mitt, you’ll need them all.
What’s struck me when seeing “Romney counting on idiot voter”, however, is that the Republican theme of being anti-education is not a new tactic, but what seems to be a new nuance is that a lot of people are embracing that they are ill-informed voters… a badge of pride. “Yeah, she’s with stupid, and proud of it!” THAT is strange in my book. Few things are worse for a country than having masses of people who embrace the punishment for their lack of brainpower by their rulers. It’s like the entire Republican party has Stockholm Syndrome. “Yeah! I’m broke, I’m don’t have a job, and my foot just got cut off, but hell no I ain’t ever going to accept Obamacare!!! Privatize that stuff like the rich people say we should do!”
But it is a free country. People can be controlled because of their desire to stay ignorant of policy if they really want to. It’s a bad choice, but it’s their choice.
Santorum calls college educated people snobs, but for about a decade, if not more, the Republican party sneers at universities as “elites” and they especially don’t like professors. Anyone who is that dedicated to knowledge is dangerous to a political party that counts on exciting the mob.
Rule number one when ruling: to keep people down, keep them uneducated. It’s been that way since the first powerful groups managed to control sections of the world be it tribal or an empire: dumb people are easier to control. They don’t ask questions, and they DEFINITELY do not do their own research.
Rule number two when ruling: people at war will take a bullet for you. George W. did it. Republican radio and TV are at war with everything they can fit after the word. Make them think they’re at war, and they’ll take the bullet of Republican by voting for you.
That’s all you need, really, when trying to control a lot of people: keep them stupid, and give them an enemy. Romney is counting on it, but it seems the problem is he’s hired so many other people who are wanting in the brain-power area that his campaign is a complete mess. Just keep running false ads, Mitt. You’ll get a lot of angry voters from it.
But it won’t be enough to win. They don’t love you OR fear you. They just hate Obama, and that’s NOT enough to rule.
