How could I pass up that phrase? It’s such a friendly and proper political dig.
Today it was close race between the searches, “to know mitt romney is to dislike him”, and “what do democrates think about 2016” (the latter because I, too, am genuinely interested in what a political party from Quebec that no longer exists might think about it… that, or it was just a typo… but I prefer the Canada connection, personally, because it makes the whole thing far more interesting).
So the favorite search into POLITUSIC today is: “to know mitt romney is to dislike him”.
Primarily: how ominous that phrase sounds, doesn’t it? We’re in the period of big scary voices being used for political commercials, and this phrase would fit right in to the anti-matter version of the Obama 2016 movie, wouldn’t it?
I also like this search because it implies a general lack of knowledge about Mitt Romney… or is it a lack of general knowledge about Mitt Romney…. whatever!... the main thrust of the phrase, “you don’t know Mitt Romney” is something with which I agree whole–heartedly (and I’ll throw in most of my gut, lower intestine, and a kidney if it helps bolster the point and get you to share it with a friend).
Second: The implication that one would only “dislike” mitt romney if one were to get to know him…. I find that quite encouraging, really! That’s major progress in the tenor of political dialog.
How refreshing it is that finally, within all the chaos and cow pattie throwing that’s going on in the 2012 presidential election, there’s some soft language that even your 3rd grade teacher would be OK with using on the playground.
You won’t dispise Mitt Romney… you won’t hate him… you won’t recoil at the thought or sight of him… Nay! You won’t even want to throw yourself off a bridge because you’ll think the world is coming to and end if you get to know Mitt Rommey….
You’ll simply dislike him. How tame and proper.
That’s it. You’ll generate a wee bit of distaste for that which is a known Mitt Romney. Pass me the Grey Poupon of negative ad verbiage, eh?
(for people who play “sport” rather than “sports… YOU know who you are: Americans who went to school where it was called 6th form, and you took A-levels like our monarchial predecessors… if you had a “sister school” but you were only in the 5th grade, and you could relate to being a student in the Dead Poets Society, then yes…. that means you.)
That seems like quite a fair and balanced opinion, doesn’t it? Simply dislike Mitt Romney… once you get to know him, anyway.
Heck… if you say it out loud without a scary sounding voice, “to know Mitt Romney is to dislike him” …. and use bright colors and flowers as the imagery… for Mitt Romney…. that might even be considered a POSITIVE ad. ;)
