This is why I love POLITUSIC: the stewed combination of art and politics. Only on this website could we get these three searches on the website all in the same day:
- Eddie Van Halen Republican
- Helton John
- Everyone should see 2016 movie
It’s like a rockin’ home studio mash up of Google searches about music legends and political absurdity! Welcome to POLITUSIC, I guess. (…but if any singing cats start showing up, I’ll be annoyed… entertained, but annoyed)
I love all three, so can’t pick just one. I’ll pull a Ruffles of my favorite searches of the day, then:
Eddie Val Halen Republican.
Really? I’ll have to look this one up, too. It seems all the news about Van Halen and Republicans revolve around a story… that pretty much details how Eddie Van Halen is NOT a republican. It was back when Sara Palin was still the darling of the GOP:
Rolling Stone magazine reports that days before Heart served the GOP campaign with a cease-and-desist letter for playing their 1977 hit “Barracuda” to introduce VP pick Sarah Palin (high school alias: “Sarah Barracuda”) at the August 31st Republican convention, Van Halen sounded off against McCain and Co. for blasting their tune “Right Now” at a rally in Dayton, Ohio. “Permission was not sought or granted nor would it have been given [to use the song],” Alex and Eddie Van Halen said in a statement. But not every VH member agreed.
Of course, what was sorta funny is that Sammy Hagar is a regular donor to the Republican Party, and later statements were released in PERFECTLY TYPICAL Fox News fashion how “disappointing” is was that Eddie and Alex “would piss off a big portion of their fan base” by not wanting the Republican party to use their song during the 2008 election to promote good ‘ole bear hunter Palin. I’m conceding here, however, that this sparse does not say explicitly if Eddie Van Halen is a republican or not, but just that he was very much “unhappy” about his song being used by the GOP. Take from that what you will.
Helton John
At first I assumed a typo… but the H is just so gosh darn far away from the E on the keyboard… Helton John… maybe it’s another secret code of the super-conservative that I don’t know about to make fun of Elton John since he’s openly gay? The man has done an enormous amount of great work around the world to help, literally, thousands and thousands of people, so I’m not sure how accurate “Helton” might be… some people just need to get over the whole Gay = Hell thing. When a gay man does more good works in this world than a straight gay basher does… I have different ideas on which one is going to heaven and which the other direction. But that’s just my opinion. I don’t claim to know better. I just rant about it.
Everyone should see 2016
My, how this long, conservative political commercial has made noise lately. POLITUSIC has basically agreed its tantamount to a SuperPAC ad, and anyone who is not already an Obama hater certainly agrees.
But the search is “everyone should see 2016″… and you know what? I think that person might be right. It’s not going to sway anyone. As long as people walk into it with clarity about who wrote it, who paid for it, and (this part might be asking a lot) read some reviews of Dinesh D’Souza’s book, THEN go see it. Go for it. Let the truth be known! (snark, snark). No reason not to, and if it does change your vote, then no harm in that, because you have the right to change your own vote.
So… if it ever plays in this small town in this blue state where I live, then maybe I’ll grab some popcorn and have a good laugh.
