We have yet another favorite right-wing Internet search that’s spawned from paranoia, and the current state of “facts are optional” inside the republican far right. Funny that we get so much web traffic from the far right looking for reasons why democrats are destroying their world – trying to destroy it, no less. It is amazing the things we believe when it’s said by someone on television or talk radio. Alas, we’re here to help answer the question they asked: if democrats win the house in 2014, will it destroy America?

To whomever went to Google and typed the search phrase, “If democrats win house in 2024 it will destroy america” I ask you to please, as always, educate yourself – even if just a little bit – before swallowing the political poison that seems to be spewing (and splattering) from the extreme right wing media outlets.
Remember: the people yelling at you on right-wing talk radio have claimed that America will end for years – and every time we are just fine. They’re selling you something – maybe it’s time you stop buying it over and over again. If you stop listening to all the noise, the facts show you that what they’re screaming in your ears is not true.
Beliefs shouted by ranting television and radio personalities are NOT facts. (And what does “destroy America” mean, anyway? Is there a mega-wrecking ball, or scientists funded by the EPA will create a black hole that eats North America? Or is this more like the fabricated War on Christmas with which the far right keeps punching itself in the face?) If you’re going to allow yourself to adopt the beliefs of other people, it might be… it WILL be and is … a good idea to make sure that you’re buying into something that’s real, and not simply jumping in fear at your own shadow.
…oh, yeah: and a more diverse country doesn’t mean the country is “destroyed.” Change is the nature of the world. If you continue fight change as vigorously as the advertisers who are exploiting you want… the only thing that will happen is you’ll die earlier with a lot more bitterness in your heart than necessary. Your soul will be as thin and grey as the thrice-married, family values, door-to-door salesman Newt Gingrich who complains, blames, and then tries to sell you a children’s book.
Glenn Beck might make nice pants, but the man is a raging lunatic when it comes to reality-based analysis… and thoughts… and sometimes he makes viewers feel uncomfortable by how he pets cats. Y’all don’t have to stop watching him, but at least accept the fact that his mental state is… fragile… and the man is an entertainer, not a newsman. He’s a faked reality tv show. He dopes his facts like Armstrong. “Destroy America” is a Bruce Willis film, not something that happens in the real world. This country is far too big and far too diverse for destruction to occur. America, like banks, is too big to fail, basically. Your country is safe. Fret not.
Education: First, I know that since Obama was elected it’s impossible to see beyond the red flames in your own eyeballs, but the democrats have, in fact, controlled the House, the Senate, and the White House before… the the world didn’t end (in fact, the meteors only started falling after the Tea Party came into town and brought the entire government to a standstill like a bad made for tv movie about high school special ed classes). My point: learn from history. If democrats win back the House in 2014, the world will not, in fact end. It’s already been proven to be safe… America will not be eaten by a black hole, or burn in a pool of fire for 1000 years. The end of times will not be caused by the Democratic Party. (Is anone else amazed that we are now required to write such things?)
On that note, we must also remember all the right wing predictions that if Obama won a second term, “the world will end in fire” and it would bring in “1000 years of darkness.” Many people spoke about Obama bringing back the Planet of the Apes… but we won’t get into why they love to use that analogy, will we? None of those rather dramatic predictions came to pass, either. There’s no monster under your political beds no matter what Wayne LaPierre tells you.
All this fear mongering is not just paranoid ranting, it’s cynical ranting. Cynical because they are doing it because they know it will result in selling more advertising. Freaky destruction narratives will sell more bunkers and weapons training courses for overweight, second-rate accountants with ego issues. The people selling you the snake oil know that inflammatory language will freak the extremists in the Republican Party, which in turn sells more advertising and products. Their predictions have all been wrong (just like republican polling). Their wacky paranoid predictions will always be wrong because their goal isn’t truth; their goal is to sell products. It’s a marketing campaign… and yet y’all continue to freak out about it. Educate yourselves on facts, not beliefs. Come on, people, I know you’re smart enough.
So to the searcher who wonders if democrats win the House in 2014 that it will destroy America….dude… chill. The world didn’t end, it hasn’t ended, and your freedoms are not being infringed no matter what the gun lobby pays its NRA spokesman to say.
But the world is growing up. We are learning (very slowly). The country is getting bigger. Times change. People change. People get divorced. People learn to love the faults of others. People are born and people die.
You cannot fight history. Change does not equal destruction, no matter what Rush Limbaugh tells you.
The more you resist it, the more unpleasant your trip will be. All you can do is start educating yourself with facts, not paranoid beliefs of others. Try to join the rest of us in reality. Change can be unsettling, but it’s not going to kill you, promise. If you need a hand, we’re here to help.
