I think this could be a sign of something: number of bankruptcy lawyers listed in North America on DMOZ: 233, number in Europe: 0. No need for bankruptcy lawyers in EU, I guess…
I’m left-handed which means that I am a terrible speller. So like anyone I did a quick Google to make sure I was spelling “bankruptcy” correctly (something about that t and c combination always looks wrong to me).
So I came across the DMOZ page for Bankruptcy lawyers and the balance between the number of websites in North America vs. Europe, I thought, was a bit telling about all these outcries we hear lately from republicans calling everything they can shake their fingers at as being socialist. Socialism is evil, life will end if we even take the smallest steps to, say, start taking care of one another a little bit better than we are currently.
I suppose I have to give some leeway to DMOZ being mostly english, which can bias it a lot to just North America, but this is the one in memory I’ve ever seen where there is an “all there and none elsewhere” scenario… sort of like the Zero Percent support rating of Mitt Romney among certain groups.
And note: once you click on North America on that page, you get 3 in Canada, and 230 in the United States. Does anyone else find this at all telling, or am I just crazy. If anything, one would hope that it could spark a conversation whenever anyone calls Europe socialists with dirt in their eye and grit on their tongue. Imagine a world without the need for bankruptcy lawyers, easy if you try… or live in Europe.
It probably doesn’t hold any true, researched value it’s just DMOZ…. but nevertheless… it makes an striking point.
