It really sucks to be Paul Ryan this last few days.
Just this week Paul Ryan has had to run away from his good friends in Congress (like good ‘ole Todd Akin who has such a firm grasp how how the female body works), backpedal his life’s work on the budget since the country finds it far too harsh, and now one of his favorite bands calls him out as being the paradigmatic example of “The Man” which, in Rage Against the Machine land, means you have been excommunicated from Music-land, go listen to Pat Boone.
So yeah… being Paul Ryan this week has been rough.
And through it all, we as a country have been learning an awful lot about what the Republican Party *really* believes… without Paul Ryan none of that would have been possible, so Paul… thank you. Honestly. Paul Ryan: you, quite possibly, are the catalyst for the ill-informed voters to FINALLY start educating themselves on republican POLICY not just believe the radio and bumperstickers.
And Rage Against the Machine: Music stikes the final chord in the Paul Ryan VP rollout.
Mr. Ryan lets it be known that he’s a fan of Rage Against the Machine…. which… for anyone like me who grew up with Rage finds VERY f**ing strange that he would listen to them… given… you know… that HE’S The Man Rage is writing about. Did he not *get* that part or was he focussing too much on his workout when listening?
From the NY Times:
Tom Morello, guitarist for the politically outspoken rap-metal band, attacked Mr. Ryan, Mitt Romney’s running mate in a searing editorial for Rolling Stone.
“Paul Ryan’s love of Rage Against the Machine is amusing, because he is the embodiment of the machine that our music has been raging against for two decades,” Mr. Morello said.
Whoops. So first Paul Ryan has to run away from his plan to kill medicare… then he has to run away from all of his extreme anti-women’s rights, pro personhood friends in Congress…. and how he’s got his favorite band… running away from him.
Imagining what Paul Ryan must feel like when he listens to Rage now…. knowing that he’s been personfied as “the embodiment” of all those things they’ve been raging against.
Now…. Paul Ryan might very well be the only person who will weep when he hears a Rage Against the Machine song.
I love music! Only music can put an out of control politician in his proper place.
(and no need for a pocket full of shells)
