When anyone hears Adele’s music it’s pretty much impossible to not like her voice and style (at least unless you’re one of those who have insanely deep music biases and refuse to like music that doesn’t fit your personal-life genre). 19 was a great record. 21… flirts with a lot of different vibes, and is equally good in my opinion not just for the songs, but for how Adele is exploring more with her music.
Sometimes you feel a gospel and churchy influence, sometime straight folk, and others that London influence that can only really be explained by being there and experiencing the confusion or battle between history and trying to define what’s modern. Adele’s got style and she’s got class. The only complaint I’ve ever has is that sometimes during a live show she says, “Thank you” too darn soon after the song finishes, before the audience even gets a chance to applaud… yes… petty critique, but that’s all I got right now ;)
For information sake, here’s some of the nuts and bolts of Adele’s career thus far from WP:
Adele Laurie Blue Adkins[3] (born 5 May 1988), known professionally as Adele, is an English singer-songwriter. She was the first recipient of the Brit Awards Critics’ Choice and was named the number-one predicted breakthrough act of 2008 in an annual BBCpoll of music critics, Sound of 2008. Since her debut album 19, Adele has received much recognition both commercially and critically. The album debuted at number one, and has been certified 4x platinum in the UK.[4] Her career in the US was boosted by a viewer record–breaking Saturday Night Live episode in late 2008. At the 2009 Grammy Awards, Adele won the awards for Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.[5][6]
Adele released her second album 21 on 24 January 2011 in the UK, and 22 February in the US.[7][8] The album was well received critically and catapulted Adele to record breaking success,[9] selling 208,000 copies in its first week in the UK and debuting at number one on the UK Albums Chart, a position it managed to hold for sixteen weeks.[10] In the United Kingdom, 21 has been certified ten times platinum for shipment of 3.0 million units.[4] The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 in the US, selling 352,000 copies in its first week.[11][12] The album has charted at number one in 17 countries, including several charts across Europe, Australia and the United States.[13]
