Mitt Romney’s campaign, of course, points to the illusive “52-point economic plan” (over and over, knowing that the average voter won’t bother to even look at it).
If you bother to read over the snazzy Mitt Romney Jobs plan PDF, the first thing you’ll notice is that it takes 31 pages before Romney even starts to discuss what he plans to do. The multi-chapter forward is basically just like his campaign: say over and over again that Obama has “failed”.
Saying someone else has failed is NOT a plan. It’s second grade debating style on the playground. Next thing we know Mitt will start stomping on Obama’s toes to dirty his new shoes.
So then we get to the “meat” of the Mitt Romney job’s plan and see in the heading:
- • Repeal
- • Review and eliminate Obama-era regulations
- • Cap new regulatory costs at zero dollars
- • Require Congress to approve all major regulations
- • Reform legal liability system
OK… so basically it’s a lot more “Obama is terrible” coupled with the usual remove regulations (haven’t we learned from that position yet? “trust the banks” does not work.). I begin the chapter thinking that there might be something in here… nope. First section is more Obama bashing, and using scary words like “unpredictable” in headings.
Repeal and reform. Mostly repeal Obama (once again… that’s NOT a policy. Policy is a little more than “the other guy is bad”. Mitt Romney even gets into Environmental regulations… “reforming” them.
Is it me… or have we heard the same crap for the last 40 years from the Republican Party? And every time they get some control to give it a try: it fails. Every. Single. Time.
In the next section, Mitt Romney claims he’ll “Create a Reagan Economic Zone.”
What the hell? A Reagan Economic Zone?!?!? I know Reagan is a god to Republicans, but dear lord, stop with the stretching to put his name into everything you can possibly imagine. I get that the Republican plan is to show the American public a lot of rich people and a lot of Americana, and as such, people will wish they were rich, and wish they were like Reagan (because he was rich AND powerful), so the blind sheep will just vote for what they wish they could be – who cares if the actual policy will take them evern further away from that ridiculous dream. Remember: the republican party thinks people are stupid, and the market to buy your votes accordingly.
Mitt’s Jobs Plan also bashes on China a little bit (have to have another enemy besides Obama, right?). There’s some legitimate concerns there, but the joy of the whole thing is: the US president doesn’t have power of the the China issue. It’s too big, too many people, and simply shaking a finger and trying to “enforce rules” isn’t going to work. It’s more difficult that that, and as always, the Romney campaign doesn’t get it.
Mitt’s energy policy.. no need to even bother. More, more, more production. The world will be saved if we drill more. Again, totally overlooking how the actual energy market works: global. But they’re counting on the “dumb Americans who love Jesus and Ronald Reagan” won’t bother to look into it. Gotta love a political party that actively exploits people’s religion and dreams, eh? Good people.
Ah yes: kill unions, that as well.
Bottom line: there’s nothing new and nothing of substance. There are a few graphs, but the Democrats can show graphs that show the exact opposite data, so both are nullified.
We want ideas, Mitt. Not a used care salesman trying to sell us the exact same AMC Pacer that we turned in as a trade in.
