Mitch McConnell might try to make a facial expression and say he “does not condone _____” when speaking about the ever-growing Q-Anon, “democrats are pedophiles” wing of his, the Republican Party.
But deep down he knows it’s the best thing for republicans – even establishment republicans… if such a thing even exists anymore given to win a primary a republican candidate is required to be “anti-establishment”. Indeed, while extremism in the Republican Party is embarrassing and leads to the occasional mass murder or insurrection, it’s actually quite good because it takes power away from Congress and puts it into the courts.
The same courts Mitch has spend nearly half is career packing with loyal, conservative judges. Predictable judges. Judges he can trust. Mitch McConnell doesn’t need to waste time trying to wrangle his whacky, reality-denying nitwit party members – he doesn’t want to, because the crazier they are, the less Congress is able to achieve. And the less Congress achieves, the more issues are decided by judges rather than elected politicians.
The crazier and more dysfunctional both political parties, the better it is for the Republican Party – the old school Republican Party who care about little more than money and the occasional Bambi hunt. Hundreds of conservative, mostly sober judges will decide these issues, not those conspiracy theory morons in the House or Senate, and that’s exactly how Mitch McConnell likes it. Why do you think even he refuses to tell anyone what the republican platform is? Because the only goal of the GOP is to get nothing done, create gridlock, and generally piss off the extremes of both parties. Once achieved, the entire nation gives up on politicians all together and puts its faith in the judges – Mitch’s judges.
Both sides have this problem: the extremes cause inaction and turn Congress into a circus. For republicans this is good, but it seems democrats haven’t connected those dots yet: they still ignorantly (not optimistically) think that with work the U.S. Congress can return to some sense of normalcy where all members work from a common set of facts, and members exercise basic respect and decency.
Nope. Too late. Chaos is very good for business – billions they’ve made of MAGA-land at this point (those people will by anything!) The Turtle definitely won this race, and he did it by methodically placing judges while democrats were showing off for the cameras. Behind the cameras, Mitch McConnell is now encouraging the chaos and reaping the continued rewards.
