Donald J. Trump’s performance has been a gift to the Democratic Party and cable news alike.
Both are making a lot of money as a result of his candidacy.
Both are twitterpated at the prospect of writing the next best Trump bashing headline that makes all the A blocks.
Even President Obama weighed in.
Donald Trump is getting more free media than he ever imagined… and all he had to do was kick a baby out of a political rally.
“Trump hates babies” is a good example to make my point. People who were there when Donald Trump made his comment about the crying baby – including liberal network reporters – all said it was perfectly clear Trump was joking. Nevertheless, the news cycle was dominated with “shocked” headlines that Trump hates babies. Seriously? The media is out of control in the 2016 presidential election, and they need to reel it in.
Trump bashing by the media is out of control
Why should you care? Because this relentless pounding can end one of two ways:
- Trump drops out of the race and the Republican Party gets a new nominee (one who could actually win against a very unpopular Hillary Clinton) or;
- Democratic messaging peaks too early. The result is complacent voters who all stay at home because they assume Hillary Clinton will win.
We already see democrats smirking with total confidence they will keep the White House and maybe even win back the Senate, but just ask David Cameron’s opinion about complacency in the face of nation-shifting elections. Complacency kills the cat.
I understand that democrats are giddy like school children because Donald Trump is making more political mistakes than any candidate in known history, but they seriously need to calm down and encourage media outlets to do the same. They apparently don’t remember that Trump voters – and many voters who are somehow still undecided – feel that the system is stacked against them.
The Trumpster movement crosses policy platforms because Trump understands that the vast majority of Americans have no idea what’s in the policy platforms: they don’t care. Trumpsters and Hamletonian Undecideds feel Washington D.C. and “The Liberal Media” are rigged to keep the establishment in power. The more the democrats giggle and the more the media bashes Donald Trump, the stronger this feeling becomes in his supporters’ fired-up souls.
Bashing Trump with the glee we see in news media motivates Trumpsters and independent voters, because it reinforces their belief that the system is rigged.
Should the media and democrats point out Donald Trump’s many mistakes? Of course, but they desperately need to simmer down or they’ll just add more fuel to the Trumpster fire.
If democrats want to win… you need to spend some time being boring again. Talk about policy like grown ups. Point out that Donald Trump doesn’t have any policies. Show the tens of millions of Americans who believe the system is rigged against them how you will make their lives better.
Is President Donald Trump a scary prospect? Absolutely. Hell yes. President Trump is a nightmare for the world, not just America. It’s important to get that message across…but we cannot forget why Donald Trump won the nomination of the Republican Party.
We cannot forget who voted for him and why they are incredibly motivated. We can’t forget that there are millions of independent, democratic, and republican disenfranchised voters in this country who are sick and tired of being marginalized. These people will pull the lever for Donald Trump if it looks like the establishment is trying hard to keep him down – because that’s exactly how they feel.
