(… or daughters…)
This is a perfect photo for what the Romney / Ryan future might offer: Husband’s Sign, Not Wife & Sons.
For the Romney/ Ryan yard sign: clearly, the husband in this multi-child family is a fan of the Romney / Ryan approach to doing things. That’s great. Free country, but the “addendum” yard sign is priceless.
The wife and sons feelings about Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan, however… not so much. So much “no so much” that they felt compelled to clarify the matter to their neighbors. I like this family! I bet family dinners are a lot of fun.
For the rest of the family… there are other issues that are also important – other issues that wealth accumulation doesn’t outweigh. One must love that they felt it necessary to let their neighbors know that they don’t agree with good ‘ole dad. The Romney / Ryan ticket threatens to take the culture and policies of the country back to the 1950s in nearly every possible way – young people and women aren’t prone to embrace that idea.
However, I give a lot of credit to this family in their sticking together even though their view on what kind of government is needed to make a good and moral country differ so greatly. In that we can find some hope for the country. Love can overcome politics, and they can even make fun of it for their entire neighborhood to see. When you disagree, start with laughter whenever you can.
Maybe we can garner meaning from this dual yard sign layout insofar as how to deal with all the political polarization that has intensified since Obama was elected president: Acknowledge that we can totally disagree, laugh at it first rather than yell at it, then figure out how to live together. Living together means we have to share the bathroom with our siblings and do our chores: we compromise.

We definitely do NOT have to be like Rush Limbaugh who as we saw is perfectly willing to throw NJ Governor Chris Christie under the bus just because he dared to compliment and thank Obama for his help after Sandy brought the state to its knees (by the way Rush: if you payed attention to Chris Christie’s speech at the RNC you wouldn’t be surprised by how he’s acting now).
To all those husbands out there who have been convinced by Republicans that you have been somehow robbed of the American dream: may you be blessed with wives and sons who disagree with you – they’ll do you more good in your old age than you can possibly imagine.
