Well golly… I certainly was worried about THAT this election season.
The campaign point of this most recent weekend, of course, is that since the Romney / Ryan ticket received no bounce whatsoever after their convension, and the Democrats did see a decent increase in the electoral point spread… what does the campaign do now?
God, Guns, and NASCAR. But mainly exploit religion; it’s what the Republican Party does best.
When you need to rile up the Republican base: exploit their faith… excuse me, their God. Stop exploiting peoples’ faith to get votes. It’s the lowest form of cynical and low-handed politics.
I do give a nod to Mitt for going on Meet the Press… but of course that brought some confusion as well. Primarily, Mitt Romney all but endorses Obamacare… and then says he’ll repeal it… so that he can do it all over again. I think we will all remember, “I’m not getting rid of all health care reform” and he went on to list all the provisions of Obamacare that he LIKES… and then, back on message and in the same interview as “I’m going to repeal Obamacare.” Dial back, dial back. Can’t lose the base, there Mittens. As always the Mitt Romney campaign releases a “clarification” after a Mitt Romney interview.
And, once again, no policy specifics like, “what loop holes, exactly, will you cut?” and “how, exactly, are you cutting spending.”… you know… policy things that are soooo annoying for a President.
I’ve always felt a little bad for Mitt Romney, because his campaign has been a mess from the beginning. Children running around changing the story at every turn and who possess a total inability to create a strong message for their candidate. Additionally: Mitt Romney has not taken control. They are counting on 1) the stupid American voter, and 2) a billion dollars in spending. Even Mitt says “once we get more commercials running in those states, then it will be OK.” Flood them with propaganda, that’ll work, Mitt. Like a real business man, indeed.
Sadly, to try and get his base back, Mitt has partnered at rallies this weekend with some of the most extreme of the evangelical right… those who blame 9/11 and Katrina are God’s punishment for gays in America…. yeah…. OK.
Oh yes, and don’t forget Mitt Romney’s NASCAR appearances, we all know how Mitt loves “sport”.
It’s sad to see such an accomplished man in his personal life be so clumsy and pathetic in campaigning for a public life.
