Yet another Friday news dump, and yet another senior staffer leaves the Trump White House: Steve Bannon, the architect of Trump’s presidency, is gone… from the White House, anyway.
What scares POLITUSIC is that Steve Bannon is more powerful than ever. The White House restricted his reach, and now he’s free to throw jet fuel on the white nationalist fire in the United States.
Trump firing Steve Bannon – or Bannon leaving of his own accord, whichever you believe – does not mean the alt-right loses its influence in the White House. Trump is the alt-right. The purpose of this latest staff shake up is symbolic. It is not a cure to America’s Trump problem. Bannon’s leaving is an effort by the Trump Administration to regain support of republicans and GOP establishment. It’s an attempt to prove that Chief of Staff John Kelly has actionable influence over the president so that the Senate will get back on board the Trump Train.
Assuming Kelly completes this process, Stephen Miller and Sebastian Gorka –the two most condescending people to ever face a cable news camera – will also be asked to leave. But since Trump loves their TV appearances, the likelihood is low – even if Jared and Ivanka finally listen to their rabbi and take a stand against their benefactor.
What Does Steve Bannon Do Next?
Bannon leaving the White House does not mean he will leave the national scene. He’s a household name and a hero of the extreme-right nationalist bowel movement. Bannon is back at Breitbart – now as a nationally-recognized hero of every manifestation of the alt-right. His white nationalist platform now has more clout, influence, and money than any other similar movement we’ve seen since the 60’s.
Steve Bannon no longer working in the White House frees him to be more aggressive. Bannon has a giant infrastructure and lots of money – the Mercer family is already committed. What he created before joining Trump is insignificant compared to what he will build very soon. There will be a further increase of the energy and mobilization of white nationalists in America as a result.
When it comes to motivating the extreme right, Bannon is best. He will embolden, he will organize, and he will continue his effort to tear down democratic norms. By leaving the White House, Steve Bannon just expanded his reach and his power.
Don’t allow yourself to celebrate this event: it’s not good for America, it’s good for the white nationalists because their media-mogul leader has returned to them with ten-times the influence.
What Do You Do Next?
Keep clear, and stay awake. Most Americans are wholly ignorant of “the dark web” and various the corners of the country where right-wing extremist fester themselves to a boil. You must pay attention to it. They are elated.
If you want to prevent the rise of the extreme right, you can’t wait until its lost-soul disciples are marching in the streets with torches: you have to stop them before they become emboldened enough to reach that point. Shoving them back into their dark holes just became much more difficult, because Steve Bannon is taking his torch and re-joining the far-right media machine.
And he is very good at it.
