Given the tone of Jeff Sessions swearing in ceremony, America will soon discover what it’s like to have an administration hell-bent on throwing people in jail.
Channeling Nixon, Reagan, and a bit of Bubba, Puppet Trump continued to scare the crap out of white people today. It appears that President Bannon wants to turn America into a giant privatized prison with Jeff “Jailer” Sessions as the warden.1 I’m beginning to think his wall is not intended to keep others out, but to keep Americans in – North Korea, here we come!
True to the Nixonian and Southern Strategy that won him the White House, Trump and Sessions spent their camera time spraying a doomsday message at the media:
“We have a crime problem… we must confront this rise in crime… increased threat from terrorism… gangs and drug cartels are destroying the blood of our youth… this is a dangerous, permanent risk…. we need to end this lawlessness that threatens public safety… A new era of justice begins, and it begins right now!”
POLITUSIC’s first reaction: Holy Sh*t! This guy is trying to create a police state!
The second thoughts aren’t quite as paranoid, but are equally sad: this is what old-n-angry white guys have done since America was founded.2 For the ills and unfairs in life, religions blame devils and demons, republicans blame blacks and browns.
As they say: History doesn’t repeat, it rhymes.
This is how republicans have taken power – every single time – since the civil rights movement. It’s the way dictators justify cruelty, and it’s how presidents justify extreme measures against their people. The people always accept these measures for three reasons:
- People will accept anything if it eases their fear of death; especially a painful one.
- Americans are trapped in their own egos and monetary-based definition of power.
- Americans are idiots.3
Our problem is a combination of forgetting that opposable thumbs and grammar don’t nullify our animal instincts, and being a young country that’s passed puberty, but hasn’t yet become a man. Basically, America is a teenage ape.
We bang the ground and break sticks to demonstrate strength, but lordy are we stupid: too much testosterone jetting through our veins confusing sexual urges as love and aggression as power. Yes, we are strong. We have big muscles and loud shouts – but when challenged face-to-face – we let fear rather than experience motivate our actions. That’s why People always bow down, that’s why History rhymes, and not accepting that part of human nature is why democrats keep losing.
Politics and reasoning can’t beat nature. Morality can leash nature – for a little while – but when nature fears for its life it always breaks free. Reason and morality are temporary – instincts are forever4.
Even though crime is down on a historic scale, President Bannon is winning the message war by highlighting hotspots, releasing terror attack lists, and bypassing the news media. He has convinced conservative America that a black or brown man is hiding in their bushes, just itching to break down the door… sales of bunkers have skyrocketed.
Let’s be clear: Puppet Trump is winning the debate about the soul of America. Facts and Hope don’t matter when people are scared: the monster is real if they want it to be. America wants this enemy because it gives us something to blame and it gives us something to fight. America is afraid… and is therefore welcoming a police state that is revving its engines to build new prisons and throw people in them.
And Washington democrats are useless to the cause. They haven’t been able to win a single point since Trump took office: every nominee has been approved. They are incapable of getting even three republicans to vote with them. Best Go It Alone: on politicians we cannot rely.
You think we have mass incarceration now... just wait. Resist signs and endless email petitions won’t stop what Bannon has planned.
