They preach that if we let a profiteering mindset direct government policies, then we’d return to the iconic bliss of post-WWII America when there was a job for every man and a Hoover for every housewife…

The modern GOP believes that a totally free market with business-savvy executives at the helm of US policy is the answer to all American ills: Sad? More tax cuts! Sick? Privatize Medicare! Tap water catches on fire? Less regulation!
As Christmas cheer nears – and as Donald Trump’s inauguration speech stumbles ever closer – the foreshadowing of his legacy is projected on the wall: proving once and for all whether the republican idea that government should be run as a business is correct, or if it’s full of bull. If a Trump Presidency achieves nothing else, we will at least get judgement on this core aspect of GOP ideology.
Donald Trump’s White House of Cards
It’s clear that President-Elect Donald Trump believes the only skill an American president requires is negotiating a profitable contract: the ability and desire to make lots of money. With exception of national security posts, Trump has packed his house with business executives and lobbyists from oil, gas, privatization, Wall Street, and even right-wing media. He has built his White House around one idea: government should be run like a business with as much of it privatized as possible.
Thanks to Donald Trump, we will have definitive proof that government should not, in fact, be run as if its end-goal is to maximize profits. Thanks to Donald Trump, the progressive idea that the purpose of government is to focus on people – not corporations – will ultimately be reinforced.
It will be a painful lesson for many. But it’s an important one for America as a whole to finally learn; particularly life-long republicans. Progressive “elites” have cable-news-chattered that rural white America votes against their own economic interests every time they straight-ticket the Republican Party. It’s the same voter base that has been shooting itself in the foot by aligning their social issues with the Republican Party, because the GOP’s economic policies are detrimental to them.. but their daddy and his daddy before him were republicans, so they darn well won’t vote for a “damn democrat”. Tradition can be a damn stupid thing.
Donald Trump and his billionaire posse won’t pass policies that directly help the middle class. With the trifecta of the Paul Ryan budget, Egyptologist Ben Carson as Secretary of HUD, and Betsy “Vouchers Please” DeVos as Secretary of Education, lower-income families will be hurt even more. Whether or not those truths can overcome the alt-reality loyalty of Trump World, however, is anyone’s guess.
The Wrench in the Reality Machine: Anger, Information Isolation, and Single-Issue Voters

It’s possible that Donald Trump’s cabinet of privatization-driven billionaires will create their own genre of forever wealthy, while turning the rest of us into robots (assuming Trump’s Labor Secretary gets his way). However, it’s not entirely possible they will get blamed for turning America into an aristocracy. Even if the “run government like a business” ideology proves utterly destructive, the lesson might not be learned by Trump World, because Donald controls who gets blamed by the mob.
Donald Trump’s Twitter and Facebook accounts are state controlled media. For millions of his followers, his social media belches are the sole source for anything news related. All Trump needs to do is tweet a few “Not fair!” comments to cast shadow blame onto the cave wall.
Given youtube, facebook, and celebrity-ism have turned the average American into the emotionally mature equivalent of a pre-teen, I no longer have faith that most American communities are evolved enough to seek differing opinions and reach logical conclusions based on the totality of information they absorb. Most are too lazy to even do basic research. At best, Americans absorb only that with which they already agree, that which turns them on, or that which turns up their resentment. But what of the elite? Well, Romney dined with Donald. While Mittens isn’t a single-issue voter, he is The Example of what a republican is willing to do to keep the Republican Party in power. This meme travels through all GOP blood veins, especially anti-abortion and pro-guns. While the exact number will likely never be known, millions of people held their nose and voted for Donald Trump simply because they want right-wing control of the Supreme Court.
Donald Trump and his White House of billionaire puppeteers might destroy the economy for the non-investor class and shred the Social Contract for every American citizen, but if they also proliferate AR-15s and overturn Roe v. Wade, then single-minded republican voters may very well forgive him – or at least they’ll hold their noses and vote for him again.
Maybe they’ll blame Obama – just for old time’s sake.
Single-minded voters see only one shadow on their walls, and as such, fight for it until they die of economic asphyxiation… obsession does that people.
Obsession mated with Anger and gave birth to President Donald Trump. Now we get to experience how their comb-over offspring will run this country – just like four of his previous companies – into bankruptcy. Whether Trump’s Chapter 11 of the United States is moral or monetary is up to us.
