Call me a liberal (which would be a fair assessment), but I love this Blueberry Pie promo by Rev. Al for MSNBC. If you don’t agree with the politics of it, at least you can acknowledge how the story and imagery seems perfectly fitting for the situation we all seem to be feeling at the moment.
And of course, with the recent Saturday Night Live parody that mentioned Blueberry Pie, we had to include that below as well as an update to this post (be patient, it’s from Hulu, so you have to wait for the ad first).
POLITUSIC Effort: Help Make being “Blueberry Pied” the next “Mic Checked” for political protests.
There’s something so specific, and more importantly relatable about the premise of commercial. No matter who you are, you can see the scene of kids standing around in denial with blueberry pie all over their faces. If you have to, go ahead an pretend he’s just talking about the entire Congress to appreciate the ad.
You can say it’s both Republicans and Democrats eating the blueberry pie if it makes you feel better, that’s not my point. What makes it great is that image of all those in Washington DC politicians with blueberry pie all over their faces all claiming they didn’t eat it. It’s specific, funny, and something anyone can visualize regardless of party affiliation or personal beliefs.
Keep an eye on that term “Blueberry Pie”. I bet you because of this Lean Forward promo by Rev. Al Sharpton that it will start to make its way into the political dialog.
Well done Reverend, well done MSNBC and the entire Lean Forward campaign.
