In another quiet step intended to be below the fold, Steve Bannon has grabbed more influence in Puppet Trump’s White House.
A Presidential Memorandum published Saturday Night added the title of Chief Strategist, which is basically a political role, to the principals committee of the National Security Council.
Notably removed from regular attendance of the NSC principals committee: the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Director of National Intelligence. In practice, politics of the alt-right now has more presence on the White House NSC than the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
As with the plethora of executive orders experienced since Trump’s inauguration, we must assume Bannon was involved in the shape of this NSC restructuring as well.
Senator John McCain called the addition of Steve Bannon to the NSC “a radical departure from any national security council in history.”
“Step-by-Step” Steve Bannon, White House Chief Strategist and hero to the alt-right, now has direct influence over any and all matters relating to national security. Or as we learned under the GW Bush administration: any and all matters the administration claims have to do with national security.
“For the good of our nation’s security” is a phrase most often exploited by hardliners to justify the most severe restrictions on a liberal society. With Steve Bannon in the room, no one knows what sort of hard-line, right-wing policies might get put under the “national security” umbrella, and therefore rushed into action with draconian-level enforcement.
Stay focused.
