The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of facts and falsehoods.
Puppet Trump gets his words from Steve Bannon and his power from his base. The former is frightening, the latter is why democrats in Washington are impotent against Trump’s jarring handshake. Yes, Chuck Schumer puts on a good show, but he’s lost every row.
Democrats in Washington are powerless.
The beltway prediction is that republican senators will be the first to cast quiet votes of descent because they have to win state-wide elections. But Paul Ryan’s House of Representatives an entirely different beast: those prepubescents will support Trump so long as his supporters do – it’s the trap republican politicians made for themselves. Thanks to the “great gerrymandering of 2012” red districts are forever red, and so political compromise is met with getting voted out of office. As long as there’s gushing Trump love within the GOP base, Paul Ryan’s Congress will be forced to support Trump’s antics.
Stopping Steve Bannon’s agenda requires more than democrats having a few republican friends in the Senate. The GOP voting base – Trumpsters – remain extraordinarily loyal, totally misinformed, and giggle every time Trump tweets an insult. Half of these people don’t think he should have to follow the judgement of our courts…
The only way to chisel away at Trump’s power is to chisel away Trumpsters.
Stop Complaining To Congress: Teach Your “Make America Great Again” Neighbors
The Republican base has grown so uncompromising that it gives American politics only two states of being:
- Deadlock (Obama’s Presidency), or;
- A railroad Congress (Trump’s Presidency).
Why? Because democratic politicians take their supporters for granted, while republican politicians are scared to death of theirs. That’s why democrats lose elections, and republicans control Washington.
Democrats going to town halls and mimicking Tea Party behavior won’t win back Congress. As did Chavetz, all a republican politician has to do is damn the democrats, and the entire GOP voter base will agree with glee. “Damn Democrats!” is tattooed into their DNA, which is why intervention on a personal level is necessary: Washington won’t budge until Trump’s supporters do.
Trump’s power lies not in the size of his hands, his hidden bank accounts, or his daughter and son-in-law’s ability to keep him from totally going off the rails. Trump’s power is in the deep red districts, and until we – regular, everyday Americans – stop yelling at Washington and start confronting Trumpsters in a real and responsible way, then his power will remain as it is today: just enough to force America in whichever direction Bannon tells him.
The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of facts and falsehoods. We have to suck it up and take one for the team: arrange a lunch with that Trump voter you know and start talking facts.
