Most republicans are socialists, they just don’t know it. There are thousands of socialist programs in the United States, all of which we rely on to maintain stability and basic services. In Republicanland (the land in which republican politics dwell; where irony and contradiction lose all meaning) the GOP base has been taught to hate socialism… while at the same time using socialist programs every day of their lives. All citizens in America experience socialism in one way or another – politics simply doesn’t allow republicans to admit it. Republican haters and sign makers: call me comrade – you’re just as much a socialist as President Obama.
Republicanism, Socialism, and Shared Ownership
The meaning of socialism has been forever convoluted by the astroturf Tea Party and right wing ranks. Their primary fear seems to revolve around the idea of ownership. The fear, rather than being one shared ownership, is more along the lines that the government will take over and take away all their stuff, then distribute their stuff to other people (…or something along those lines – like I said, it’s been convoluted for political reasons, and I’d bet a socialist dollar that no one in the Tea Party rally class could coherently detail their socialist fears that keep them awake at night.)
To republicans who say they hate socialism because of shared ownership: Do you live in a condo? Too bad, your a socialist. Live in an apartment building or a duplex? Socialist. How about a housing development with a gate on it – you’re all socialists!
Do you own a membership at a country club? Socialist! Do you own shares of a publicly traded company? Socialist!
Socialist structures are everywhere my republican friends, and the reason mention that is this: America is strong not in spite of them, but because of them. Many of you fight tooth and nail to keep such “socialist programs”. Get over the Obama hate and embrace your inner socialist.
Republicanism, Socialism, and Valuation
Most republicans (all those who don’t make more than 6 figure salaries) definitely have socialist tendencies when it comes to how socialism approaches valuation. Simplified, products and labor – stuff – should be valued based on how useful they are or how much work went into their production, rather than placing a value on them simply to maximize profit and screw the other guy. Do you think someone should get paid $250,000 a year for doing no work? Do you think someone should be paid what their work is worth? You think like a socialist.
Find me any red blooded American who prefers to pay more for something than the value they get from it? Anyone? No? Well, then. Socialists. The whole lot of you – change that yellow flag red and call me comrade.
Republicanism, Socialism, and the Redistribution of Wealth
During the Obama-is-the-devil election of 2012, the anti-socialism rancor seeped all over the country, particularly this idea of welfare, food stamps, and anything that helped the poor. Giveaways, I believe, is how the argument was framed for the republican voter base. That was good red meat for them to gnaw on – redistribution of wealth. Say “redistribution of wealth” to any Tea Partier and you’ll get an earful about Obama. My oh my, how republicans hate redistribution of wealth – so long as Obama is allegedly doing it, anyway.
Socialism and Social Programs In America That Republicans Love:
Don’t like redistribution of wealth or shared-burden services by government? Here’s a starter list of socialist services in America, public and private – try living without these for awhile:
- Medicare
- Social Security
- The US Military
- National Parks
- Prisons
- Border Protection (find me one republican who wants that to go away)
- President Reagan
- The Justice System
- The National Football League (the NFL shares revenue)
- Your Water (the fact you can drink it and not die)
- Your Child’s K-12 Education
- Public Transportation
- Your Church (pay tithes? help other parishioners? build barns or attend cookouts?)
- Disposal Of Your Toilet Waste (do you want to go back to outhouses?)
- Your Garbage Collection (and the dump, too)
- Your Charities
- The Roads You Drive On (with and without potholes)
- Your Firefighters, Policemen, and Beloved County Sherif.
- The Bible.
All of those things are socialist in design, or teach aspects of socialism. Basically: Civilization is socialism. If America did not practice some measure of socialism we would not have a Military… that alone should make conservatives stop shouting and think a little. Get over the hate, Tea Party. You’re just as much a socialist as all the rest of us.
Without socialism, America wouldn’t even exist.
