While I clearly “side” more with liberals, I’m sick and tired of Democrats acting like they are a herd of 1000 sheep who refuse to boldly cross an impasse, because they’re too scared that just one among them might be a wolf in a cunning costume, or (heaven forbid) someone might get offended.
(ok… you’re right, sheep aren’t primates, but I’ll get there eventually.)
To democrats: yes, there are wolves among you. I bet there’s even more than one wolf in that herd. But you know what? GET OVER IT! You have the majority of the country, and majority of the world behind you – cross the damn river already!
I’ve always found it down right fascinating how one large male primate can “control” dozens of other apes. Near total control merely by jumping up and down and pounding his chest with the most vigor. The problem with democrats is they tend to all be beta members of the jungle. (But that’s OK, kiddies, it’s the beta male behavior that resulted in evolving into actual human beings rather than trying to beat up every mastodon we saw with our bare hands.)
Humans (primates) are generally social creatures. The more hard-right one gets the more prone they are to become anti-social and move to Montana, because while the right side of the US political argument is “FREEDOM!!!” they can’t square that in their minds with ownership and a religious structure – so all they can do is remove themselves all together to live inside their own paradox. The Left, in turn, tends to do the opposite: the more left one goes, the more socially engaged (sometimes to the point of the joyous 1969 “socialist-pinko” communes) and socially embedded they become.
The problem with extreme lefties (among many problems just like all the rest of us), is that the more you socially engage, the less one feels they are able to do on their own. They can’t act without first checking with the group for opinion or concurrence In one form this manifests as democracy… cool deal, I dig that… but when it’s taken too far (niceness over progress) it soon becomes like boards for non-profit organizations: nothing ever gets done! (or if it does, then it’s excruciatingly slow, inefficient, and never the best direction for the group because too many people had to have their ideas become part of the action).
In short, democrats are like spineless primates because they are all huddled together waiting for someone else to take the lead because they have become so deeply engaged in the act of being engaged that it’s spiralled into a lack of decisive leadership. Democrats: you have the right policies. There are a lot of self-declared republicans who would agree with those policies and “convert” if you had the spirit to get your message to cut through the cable news chaos of misinformation. You just gotta find ways to work with the alpha males, ruffle some feathers, piss some people off by being agressive and NOT checking to see if it’s OK with the group – be agressive for once because your policies have a stronger foundation in humanity.
So yes… I’m basically saying both the right and left are screwed in their own, very special ways. So much so that it’s not actually possible to “meet in the middle” due to the opposing ideological ground rules they each use to define how they interact with the world.
Alas, democrats: you have the majority. One problem is you’re a bunch of spineless apes who are afraid to offend anyone. Yes, compromise is good; that’s how you can build a majority. If only you could get your messaging a bit less scared baby money in a tree and a bit more alpha male, then you might get somewhere.
I am personally against alpha male behavior in a human setting; I find it sort of funny and entertaining in a Buster Keaton meets “America’s Funniest Home Videos segment featuring dogs” sort of way. However, alpha males are good tools for the masses of beta members of a primate pack. Where primate and human nature has gone wrong is that it’s not the alpha male who is in charge, they’re just the messenger, the speaker, the CMO of the group. The beta members who have the majority of the group and have the creative ability to adapt, to change, to compromise – they’re the ones who are in control if they just realize it.
Democrats, democrats: grow a pair, will you? Don’t be afraid to offend so long as you carry one thing with you at all times: the truth. The problem with the extreme right is they don’t care about truth, they only care about the power. If you follow that path, then you’re lost. You have to find a way to be as boisterous as republicans while maintaining your moral compass: by using the alpha males as tools.
Democrats: you have the majority of the country, you have the majority of the world who believe in what you do and not what republicans do – why is it, then that you’re hiding at the tops of the trees? Especially for this election: if you don’t manipulate the alpha males and use them to, in this case, get out the younger and minority vote in Ohio…. you’re screwed.
You can be good without being nice. My parents made me ate broccoli and I was offended, but it was the right thing to do. Time to do the right thing, Democratic Party. Sometimes that means being agressive until people learn the truth. (Because if Romney gets to pick people for the Supreme Court, then so much of what defines the US as a “nation for all” will be destroyed and will take generations of time to repair.)
Now: get over your walking-on-eggshell approach to politics and get across the damn river so we can have a country worth having for everyone.
